Reading 2019
In 2019, I set the goal to read 52 books with the hope that I would hit 1 a week. In actuality, I read 39 books. I think that I was doing relatively well January through August. I was working as a teacher teaching on call and living with my family as we waited to sell our house and buy a new one so my cleaning and cooking duties were light and I didn't have a lot of prep to do outside of the regular work day when it comes to teaching. Let's take a look at the stats
January - 4 books (10% of the year's reading)
February - 4 books (10% of the year's reading)
March - 3 books (7.5% of the year's reading)
April - 4 books (10% of the year's reading)
May - 6 books (15% of the year's reading)
June - 2 books (5% of they year's reading)
July - 4 books (10% of the year's reading)
August - 2 books read (5 % of the year's reading)
September - 0 books read (not a hard one to figure out, 0% of the year's reading)
October - 1 book read (2.5% of the year's reading)
November - 3 books read (7.5% of the year's reading)
December - 6 books read (15% of the year's reading)
Okay, what was going on this year? I was pretty consistent with between 4 and 6 books read each month for January through July. In March, we travelled to China for two weeks and I'm not sure if that meant I had more or less time to read.
In September, I had a newborn so I was up to my elbows in breastfeeding and diapers. I didn't think I had any time to read!
In October, the only book I read was a textbook for class!
In November, I discovered audiobooks and decided that they would count as reading because I am consuming and understanding the content of the books. What a game changer that has been! The other thing that I've started doing in the new year is using my Kindle while I breastfeed... that has vastly increased the amount of reading I've been able to do so far in January! But I'll come back to that another time.
Here's my graph of books finished reading January - December 2019.
And for comparison, pages read January - December 2019. Obviously 0 pages in October, and a maximum of 2131 pages in July, thanks to the tome that is 1Q84!
